NASA Worldview
A redesigned tool for visualizing NASA's satellite imagery and data
- Role: UX Designer, Interaction Design, UI Design
NASA Worldview lets anyone browse full-resolution satellite imagery of the entire Earth, layer by layer and day by day. Its power is enormous, but the interface asks a lot of newcomers: dozens of near-identically named data layers, a dense timeline, and controls competing for the same corners of the screen.
I redesigned the layer and timeline experience โ grouping similar layers so duplicate readings collapse into one entry, clarifying per-layer controls for visibility, settings, and removal, and giving map elements their own section separate from data layers.
A guided walkthrough introduces the dataset behind what you're looking at, so a first-time visitor can understand a wildfire detection map without needing to know which satellite captured it.
